MpRLF, a cytochrome b5-like heme-binding protein, is the focus of this paper. CRISPR/Cas9 loss-of-function mutants (Mprlf-ge) showed delayed thallus growth and impaired gemma cup and reproductive organ formation; estradiol-inducible MpE2Fpro:XVE>>MpRLF overexpression and MpRLFpro:GUS reporter analyses were performed. MpRLF binds heme in vitro and rescues the Arabidopsis rlf mutant, showing functional conservation.
