It is a plasma-membrane protein expressed in the notch/dividing cells and reproductive organs; mutants show severe cell proliferation/differentiation defects and reduced cytoplasmic Ca2+, so MpMCA regulates Ca2+-dependent cell proliferation and sexual reproduction.
