Mp3g02320 MpC1HDZ experimental subject MpC1HDZ is the sole Class I HD-Zip orthologue in M. polymorpha. Mpc1hdz loss-of-function mutants were more susceptible to Spodoptera frugiperda herbivory but more resistant to Phytophthora palmivora, and showed developmental defects (shortened gemma cups, reduced air pore density, absent surface papillae, loss of oil bodies), indicating a broad role for MpC1HDZ in epidermal cell differentiation and defense.
